Iceland recently granted citizenship to Bobby Fischer, the reclusive chess champion who has been stuck in Japan waiting to be deported to the U.S. There is a federal warrant out for Mr. Fischer which means he would be arrested upon returing to the U.S.. I can't say that I agree with many of Mr. Fischer's statements which could have been taken out of context regarding 9-11 but I am glad that he will not be brought to the U.S. for violating U.S. sanctions against the Milosevic regime in Yugoslavia. He went there in 1992 and played a game of chess against a Russian champion. Apparently, the Clinton Administration thought that it had some authority over U.S. Citizens in terms of their ability to travel and play chess. Maybe the government might have some authority to restrict travel and recreational game playing during a Congressionally declared war but not in undeclared spy games where our enemy is our friend is our enemy is our friend is our ....
