Dear Editor,
Mr. Cheatham got it wrong! German Americans, almost 11,000 of them, were interned in the U.S. during World War II. At the age of 12 I was one of those interned.
As an American-born child of 12, a resident of Brooklyn, NY, I was interned during World War II. As a result of this internment my family was destroyed. We were deported to a war-torn, starving Germany. I have written my story in the book, The Prison Called Hohenasperg: An American boy betrayed by his Government during World War II, uPublish, Parkland, FL, 1999. I mention my book here so that if you have a deeper interest in this episode of American History, the reading of my story will enlighten you to the rest of the story of internment in the US during World War II.
Sincerely,
