The news of Tom DeLay stepping down, perhaps "temporarily," as Majority Leader in the House, has me feeling somewhat and tepidly optimistic. Whether the charges are fair, time will tell.
And whether my take on his leadership is fair is also somewhat tentative. Still, one senses the man lost whatever moral compass he may have once had. Just days ago, he suggested that there was no fat to be cut in the Federal budget to offset the new spending on Katrina. I'm not sure Bernie Sanders would be so bold as to take THAT position!
With DeLay out of the way, perhaps the fiscal conservatives can start moving things in a more appropriate direction. Modestly, I'd suggest starting with pork barrel projects, corporate welfare, and Iraq.
