A news item caught my eye a few minutes ago. It seems the city of New Orleans has been forced by events to pare down its payroll by a cool 40%. It makes me wonder of course if they really needed all those people to begin with, eh?

It does make sense though. With about half the people it had pre-Katrina it "needs" about half as many city employees too. The city government could start by firing the 250 + cops and the 120 firefighters that deserted the city when needed most. It’s what I’d do anyhow.
