I must disagree with the premise of Dr. Foldvary’s argument about tax loss, as it only tells half of the story. Government does not hoard money, it spends it. That spending spurs the economy more than the effects cited in his article, not only in the manner described by Keynes in terms of income flows, but in the effects of that spending which lead to outcomes not available to most people in the private sector. Public sector education makes bookstores possible, since without them most families could not pay to educate their children. Public protection and land recordation make private property possible, so that the book store can safely open. I could go on, but I think I have made my point.
In my opinion, our task in liberty and community is to figure out better ways to provide the services that society demands without shackling it to a government. Once we do that, the question of taxes solves itself.
