Dr. Foldvary is correct in stating how the boom bust cycle would be broken by Land Value Taxation. It has another strength as well. It holds sellers accountable for excessive land values, provided they have reinvested in more property - as most do. No commentary I have heard on the mortgage crisis has mentioned the windfalls on the seller side and none of the solutions mentioned, save an LVT stabilizing the whole situation, has any chance of holding them accountable for their share of this fiasco.
