Paranoia's Pull?

by Robert Capozzi

For those interested in the beneath-the-surface arguments over what to do about the Iraq quagmire, read this.

It seems a great exposition on the neocon argument: Jim Baker's missing the big picture. Iran is evil. We MUST stop them before they get nukes. Talking to them, involving them in sorting out the Iraq situation is a disaster in the making. If the US has the "will" to impose its hegemony over the region, all will be well.

Is this hysterical talk? Articulate yet paranoid rambling?

Or is it the truth?

Up to you, kind reader.

Sorry for the lack of responses over the last week, your last post sent me into a tail spin in which I believed my head would actually implode from backwards logic. Luckily, 168 straight hours of Fox News instilled the right wing, conservative propaganda to my very core, so I'm ready to tow the "conservative rope" again.

Jim Baker's officially a nut job. There's really no reason to dive any further into the subject matter. Just because a war is not going well does not mean you scrap the whole thing and bail. The American Revolution was not going well on a number of occasions, yet giving up was never an option.

The decision to withdrawal in Vietnam has created a gaping hole in the psyche of many Americans. The second you bring up Vietnam, Americans shutter and clam up, due to their perception of that conflict and it's end. America's unwillingness to do what is necessary, especially in Vietnam, and now in Iraq, to win a war has tied the hands of our troops, and left us wide open to criticism from the rest of the world. We, as a country, need to engage in these conflicts on an "us first" type of mentality. If a situation warrants intervention by the U.S. we need to get the job done the right way, not the "politically and socially acceptable way in which our neighbors and allies will judge our every move and tell us how we could have done it better" way. I'm sick of the fact the terrorists can hide amongst women and children and our troops are expected to go door to door and be careful not on offend or injure anyone but the terrorists. These animals put their most vulnerable in the line of fire in the hopes that the American people and the world will break down because of civilian casualties. We cannot fight on their terms, or Jim Baker might actually be right some day.

You can only lose a war your are willing to give up on. Regardless of how you feel about the lead up to the war, it has become a focal point on the who will prevail game between good and evil.

The Iran's of the world need to be sent a message that their antics and support of fighters in Iraq, and elsewhere will not be tolerated. Negotiating with him will only make it worse!
